Space Snacks Café & Bakery | Our Story

From a love of coffee, baking, and local small businesses to a dream of creating our own little space. Space Snacks Cafe & Bakery started with a simple love for the things that make a local cafe feel special — the smell of fresh baking, a perfectly made coffee, a warm and inviting atmosphere, and the feeling of being welcomed like family. We’re a mother-and-daughter team, both born and raised in Nova Scotia, who moved to Ontario a few years ago. Coming from a smaller province, we’ve always had a special appreciation for local mom-and-pop shops, independent cafes, and the people behind them. Some of our favourite memories have always involved discovering little local spots, enjoying specialty coffees, and experiencing the warmth that you just don’t get from a big chain. Our love for baking started long before Space Snacks. We both grew up surrounded by mothers and grandmothers who were always baking from scratch. From a young age, we fell in love with the process — mixing, creating, experimenting, and most importantly, sharing something homemade with the people we love. Over the years, that passion grew into a true appreciation for the art of baking and creating delicious things from scratch. Four years ago, Space Snacks began with something a little different — freeze-dried treats. What started as a small idea quickly became a growing business, but there was always another dream sitting in the back of our minds: one day, we wanted to open our own cafe and bakery. And that's where the name Space Snacks comes from. What started with our freeze-dried “space snacks” eventually grew into the cafe and bakery we had always dreamed about. We brought the two ideas together — our love for fun, unique treats and our passion for coffee, baking, and creating a warm local cafe experience. Today, Space Snacks Cafe & Bakery is where those passions come together. We make our baked goods from scratch, serve locally roasted coffee and specialty lattes, create our famous dirty sodas and dirty energy drinks, and make our focaccia sandwiches using house-made breads. But more than anything, we wanted to create a place that feels like the local cafes we’ve always loved — warm, welcoming, a little unique, and made with love. We’re so grateful to everyone who has supported our journey from those very first freeze-dried treats to the cafe and bakery we have today.
